Restoration Shaman PvP BiS — TBC Arena

Season 217002200 ratingn=214Updated Jul 1, 2026

Restoration Shaman is the premier 5v5 healer of TBC arena and a staple of 2v2 drain comps, built around Earth Shield uptime, Nature's Swiftness clutch heals, and totem control (Grounding and Tremor win games on their own). Your gear goal is simple: enough resilience to survive a melee cleave sitting on you, then as much bonus healing as you can stack without going oom by the five-minute mark. The Merciless Gladiator's Ringmail 5-piece with Veteran's honor offset pieces is the standard kit at every rating bracket this season — the list below reflects what gladiator-range resto shamans actually equip, not a theorycrafted wish list.

Restoration Shaman stat priority (arena PvP)

  1. Resilience
  2. >Bonus Healing
  3. >Stamina
  4. >Intellect
  5. >MP5

Resilience comes first because a dead shaman heals nobody — 300+ resil forces enemy teams off you and makes Wind Shear/kick fishing their only win condition. Bonus healing is your throughput stat and scales every Healing Wave and Chain Heal. Stamina is deceptively valuable in 2v2 where you will be the kill target. MP5 matters more in 5v5 dampener games than in short 2v2 skirmishes; the Salvation main-hand and Third Wind totem cover most of it.

Gems

  • Item #24029Teardrop Living Ruby in every red socket — flat +healing is your best per-socket value.

  • Item #24057Royal Nightseye where a blue socket bonus is worth it — healing plus MP5.
  • Item #25901Insightful Earthstorm Diamond meta — mana restore procs constantly off totem refreshes.

Restoration Shaman PvP FAQ

How much resilience should a Resto Shaman have in TBC arena?

Aim for roughly 300 resilience in the full Merciless set with Veteran's offset pieces. Below ~250 you die in a stun to warrior/rogue cleaves; well above 350 you start trading away too much healing and mana for diminishing survivability.

Should I use the Season 1 Gladiator's Ringmail pieces if I can't afford Merciless yet?

Yes. S1 pieces cost arena points only (no rating requirement) and carry the same 2-piece and 4-piece set bonuses. Buy Merciless upgrades in the order helm → chest → legs → gloves → shoulders as points allow.

Is the Medallion of the Horde/Alliance mandatory?

Effectively yes — 97% of surveyed resto shamans run it. Grounding Totem covers some polymorphs, but trinketing a blind, fear, or sheep at the right moment decides close games.

Which weapon should I buy first: Salvation or the shield?

The Merciless Gladiator's Salvation main-hand first — it is the largest single +healing and MP5 upgrade in the list. The Redoubt shield is armor and stamina; the S1 Shield Wall covers that slot fine until you have spare points.

Do resto shamans gem resilience or healing in TBC?

Mostly healing (Teardrop Living Ruby). The armor pieces already carry your resilience budget; sockets are where you buy back throughput. Only gem resilience if you sit below ~250 and feel every opener.

What totem (relic slot) should a PvP Resto Shaman use?

Merciless Gladiator's Totem of the Third Wind — the resilience on a relic is unique to the PvP totems. The S1 Third Wind is nearly as good and rating-free.
